Changes to my Copyright Power Point

After reviewing my original power point it was very long and extremely boring. I will guarantee the audience would be snoozing. My changes included the template, color scheme, type, and adding illustrations. First, I went with a uniform template throughout the presentation. In keeping with the recommendation not to use a default template, I kept it simple with text on the left and illustration on the right. The text was placed on the left hand side, since we read from left to right. In keeping with the recommendations from Burmark , You Snooze You Loose, I changed the background to blue and the text to yellow, since yellow catches your eye first. All text titles and content are done in the same font, verdana, and the size is the same too. I kept the same number of slides, but shortened the content and I added an illustration on every slide to make it more interesting. After the changes made it made me want to look at it and read it.

Chapter 4 Ringing CHIMES

Ringing CHIIMES is a chapter about how a presenter needs to be creative in their presentation. Presenters need to be exciting and motivating. Every presentation needs to begin with an eye catching activity. Efficiency and effectiveness go hand in hand. A presentation that is too long will create boredom from the audience. Although, a presentation needs to be done with efficiency, it has to be done with effectiveness. According to Burmark 2010(pg. 62), “To be effective we need to accomplish two things; get their attention and make the presentation stick.” We need to get our audience attention, but be careful not to create a distraction. The last thing we want is for the audience to be so distracted with the introduction they can’t keep their mind on the importance of the presentation.
After getting their attention we need to keep their attention. Make your presentation memorable not forgettable. If you like you are enjoying yourself and believe in what you are presenting the audience will catch on and they in turn will begin enjoying themselves. Burmark uses the acronym CHIMES to ensure each presentation is memorable. The acronym stands for: Making connections, Harnessing humor, Starting with Images, playing Music, tapping Emotion, telling Stories, and Engaging Senses.

Chapter 1 Tweaking Presentations

Chapter one is talking about how to make a power point presentation more interesting. It talks about templates, color, and type.
When creating a template try avoiding the use of default templates, instead create templates that are related to the content to be presented. The slides should never compete with the content. According to Garr Reynolds(Presentation Zenn), “He warns against bombarding the viewer with irrelevant elements that distract rather than support the content that you are trying to display on the slide.”
Color creates a willingness to read, boosts motivation, enhances learning, improves retention,, and color outsells black and white in advertisements. Yellow is the first color the eye will see and red is the next eye catching color. The best color combination on a slide is a blue background with yellow text. About 8 % of males have trouble distinguishing between green and red. So, combing the two is not a good idea. Thos restful color for the human eye would be yellow on dark green.
When considering the type on each of your slides, keep in mind the number of words, font, color and layout options. Each slide should consist of words and illustrations. Size should be differ on the slide(e.g. heading should be larger than the content) and be consistent with all the slides. Information should start on the left hand side, because our eyes naturally begin on the left. Typeface is also important. Keep in mind that lower case lettering is easier to read, so keep upper case lettering to a minimum(title). Spaces between the lines improve legibility. Be consistan with font size and keep in mind what the audience size is.

Copyright Presentation

It was quite frustrating not to be given any directions as far as number of slides that should be on the presentation. Therefore, I made my copyright presentation quite lengthy. I was trying to make sure that I got everything that was important into a slide. The most frustrating part of creating the power point was that I created 7 slides that I didn't need to include. I realized this after reading the directions Mrs. Evans gave us more carefully. After it was all done it didn't seem all that complicated.

The reading was pretty lengthy and somewhat confusing. This kind of article really needs to be read through several times to understand all of the legal jargon. But, I will have to say that many of the points made were a bit scary for and educator like me. I am wondering why I have never been trained on something so important. Well, better late than never.
